Pierrot seems to finally capture the love and attention of Columbine, with the help of delicious Cognac Otard, in this classic liquor poster from 1922. The moonlight illuminates this night time scene, highlighting not just the charming couple but also the impressive Chateau de Cognac where Cognac Otard is produced.

Pierrot is a pantomime character whose origins lie in the late 17th Century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris, known as the Comédie-Italienne. The Pierrot character traditionally pines for the love of Columbine, who usually breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. The story and characters are a well-known classic in Europe.

Cognac Otard is steeped in rich history. Founded in 1795 by Baron Jean-Baptiste Otard in Cognac, France the liqueur is still in production today. The Otard family traces their roots back to a notorious Norwegian warrior named Ottar. Settled in Scotland for centuries, the family moved to France after the Glorious Revolution of 1688. They entered into French royalty after fighting alongside Louis XIV and were granted the Chateau de Cognac as their estate. The imposing castle dates back to the 10th Century, when it was built to protect the townsfolk from Norman raiders. Its deep cellars are used to age Cognac Otard.
