A giant lighthouse full of daytrippers occupies most of this charming image done to promote travel to the American Great Lakes with United Air. Look closer to see all the details artist Stan Galli has included; cargo boats bringing in goods to the harbor criss cross with white sailboats, seagulls fly towards us, and the bow of a woman’s hat blows in the breeze.

The Great Lakes are five interconnected freshwater lakes that connect with the Atlantic Ocean by way of the Saint Lawrence River. The Great Lakes area is located in the middle of America, along its northern border with Canada. Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario have been a boon to the Mid-West’s economy for centuries. The cities of Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo, and Toronto are all located along the Great Lakes.

United Airlines, Inc., commonly referred to as United, is a major U.S. airline headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is the world's third-largest airline when measured by revenue, after American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. United operates a large domestic and international route network, with an extensive presence in the Asia-Pacific region. United is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance. United was founded in 1926 as Varney Air Lines and was later known as United Air Lines (UAL). Just prior to the use of the United Airlines name, The Boeing Company operated a predecessor airline.

Stan Galli (1912 - 2009) was a well-known illustrator and painter who devoted the majority of his career to advertising art of all sorts. Galli's art hangs in the Pentagon, the Baseball Hall of Fame and other places of note; his work has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution, the New York Historical Society and the Grand Central Gallery in New York. • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
