  • Marcello Dudovich was an Italian painter, illustrator, and poster designer who stands with Leonetto Cappiello as one of the forerunners of Italian poster design. He created this vintage poster around 1925 when archeologists started excavating Ercolano, also known as Herculaneum. This ancient city, neighbor to Pompeii, was covered in burning ash, hot mud and lava when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. These excavations were extremely informative about the art, customs and way of life of the ancient Romans as the lava rock and ash preserved many objects that would otherwise be lost to history.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
