  • This poster was created in the 1950s for the Messageries Maritimes, which was a French merchant shipping company from 1851 until it merged with another company in 1977. It advertises an ocean line that went to South America. The names at the bottom, Charles Tellier, Laennec, and Louise Lumiere are all names of actual ships that traveled route.
    The artist, Jean Desaleux, created a number of bold maritime posters as well as a well-known image for the Cordial Medoc brand ( in the 1950s.
