Albert Brenet was the official artist for the French Navy and Air Force, starting in 1936. He traveled by sea often, always carrying his sketchbook and documenting scenes both on the water and of life on board. He created many commemorative and promotional posters. This poster was created for Chargeurs Réunis (United Shippers) which transported cargo and passengers and was at one point the third-largest shipping company in Europe. This ship pictured is the “Général Leclerc” (paquebot means ship) who’s main route sailed from Bordeaux to Dakar, Conakry, Sassandra, Abidjan, Lomé, Cotonou, Douala, Libreville, Port-Gentil, Pointe-Noire, and also returned to France via voyages through Lagos between Douala and Cotonou.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
