He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on March 15, 1883, as Emil Kahn to a Jewish family, but changed his name to his more commonly known pseudonym in 1905. His first name is often spelled Lucien. He was influential in helping create the design style known as Plakatstil (Poster Style), which used reductive imagery and flat-color as well as Sachplakat ('object poster') which restricted the image to simply the object being advertised and the brand name. He was also known for his designs for Stiller shoes, Manoli cigarettes, and Priester matches. \u003cbr\u003e\n Though he studied briefly at the Akademie in Munich, he was largely self-taught. He moved to Berlin in 1901 where he worked as a poster designer and art director for magazines. In 1920, he became a professor at the Akademie der Künste until 1923, when he emigrated to New York City. In 1928, he opened the Contempora Studio with Rockwell Kent, Paul Poiret, Bruno Paul, and Erich Mendelsohn where he worked as a graphic artist and interior designer. Bernhard did extensive typographic work for the American Type Founders Company as well as other advertisers. For Amoco, he redesigned their logo in addition to designing a wonderful group of posters. A golden banner at the center bottom points out that this is an all new show in the circus’ 107th year. As the poster illustrates, this new show features Gunther Gebel Williams, the European animal trainer. Below the image is a banner left blank that the circus used to later print the date and location of their performance as they travelled around the country. Ringling Bros. and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Circus, also known as the Ringling Bros. Circus, was an American traveling circus company that brought the audience their performances under the title of The Greatest Show On Earth. Ringling Brothers was the largest circuses in the late 19th and early 20th century formed by seven brothers of the Ringling family. They acquired America's other leading circus troupes, Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey, in 1907 and operated separately until 1919. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Combined Shows was formed when P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. It and its predecessor shows ran from 1871 to 2017. In 1968, as the professional clowns got into their 50s, the circus established the Ringling Bros. and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Clown College to pass down the craft of clowns to the younger generation. Due to weakening attendance rate and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21, 2017 after 146 years. Gunther Gebel Williams (1934-2001) was the one of the most celebrated circus entertainers in history. Born in Poland, he later immigrated to Germany with his mother after World War II. He became well-known during the early days of television when circus was a major form of entertainment. He became an animal trainer at Ringling Bros. and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Circus from 1968-1990, and was particularly known for his works with big cats. Among other feats, he trained lions to ride on the backs of elephants, taught leopards and tigers to jump through flaming hoops, and wrapped panthers around his neck and shoulders. The star performer of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Circus for 22 years, he appeared in over 12,000 shows. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. One yacht, known as the defender, represents the yacht club that currently holds the America's Cup and the second yacht, known as the challenger, represents the yacht club that is challenging for the cup.The timing of each match is determined by an agreement between the defender and the challenger. The America's Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy. It will next be raced for in the southern summer, in the early part of 2021. The 1983 America's Cup was the occasion of the first winning challenge to the New York Yacht Club, which had successfully defended the cup over a period of 132 years. An Australian syndicate representing the Royal Perth Yacht Club fielded the Australia II, skippered by John Bertrand, against defender Liberty, skippered by Dennis Conner. Australia II won the match races to win the America's Cup, ending the longest winning streak in sporting history and ending U.S. domination of the racing series. The G.H.Mumm champagne business dates back to 1827. The Mumm Family managed their business with a single goal: controlling grape quality by retaining “Nothing but the best”. Then they created another of the firm’s strongest assets, a privileged partnership with vine-growers situated on the best Champagne terroirs. Almost a hundred years later, these “fine locations”would be renamed “Grands Crus”. Today the company sells over eight million bottles of Champagne per year. Jobs and Lee Clow had collaborated back in 1984 to launch the MacIntosh. Now was the time to recover the sense of Apple’s place in the world of creative users. The TBWA Chiat\/Day team said that Apple should be aligned with the creativity of personalities and people making an impact on the twentieth century. The “Think Different” phrase provided an opportunity to celebrate both the creativity of these people but also the distinctiveness of Apple in the computing world, responding to IBM’s historic campaign motto, “Think”. The campaign was swiftly approved by Apple, then begun with the television commercial, which first ran on Sept. 28 1997, followed by the print ads, billboards and posters. Richard Feynman (1918-1988) was one of the great scientists and physicists of our time, truly one of the great minds of humanity. He made his mark as an original genius, starting with his work on the Manhattan Project in his early twenties, through winning a Nobel Prize for his work in developing an understanding of quantum mechanics, and finally as a much-loved professor of undergraduate physics at Caltech. The Feynman method of thought was developed by a man who refused conventional wisdom at all turns and who sought to build his mental computer from the ground up, starting with an understanding of mathematics at a very young age. What we take from Feynman is an absolute, unvarying pursuit of rationality and truth. Feynman would rather admit that he didn’t know something than believe in false knowledge.- Farnam Street This is an Original Poster , it is not a reproduction.
