Train and Globes is a 1990 print by art deco artist Pierre Fix Masseau. The artwork was a unique design commissioned for a marketing event in 1990. The event had a "global networking" theme which Fix Masseau incorporated into his design in the form of the two world globes- a special request by commission. The globes appear prominently above the train. The train itself was a self-reference to Fix Masseau’s famous Exactitude poster from 1932.

The marketing event was unfortunately cancelled and as a result very few prints remain in existence. This print has been individually hand-signed in pencil by Fix Masseau.

Pierre Fix-Masseau (1904-1995) was the son of accomplished French sculptor, Pierre Felix-Masseau. Fix-Masseau began his career as an apprentice to master Art Deco designer A.M. Cassandre, for whom he worked for from 1926 to 1928. This experience greatly impacted Fix-Masseau, who continued to work within the Art Deco style for the remainder of his long career. Cassandre's interest in foreshortening, heightened focal points, and flattened planes can be seen in Fix-Masseau's works. Fix-Masseau combined Cassandre's influence with his own mastery of perspective and intricate detail to create his own, distinctive style. Fix-Masseau is best remembered for his posters featuring railway and automotive themes. The artwork’s composition features strong diagonals to create a dynamic image. Fix-Masseau designed this poster towards the end of his life at the age of 85.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.
