A young mother holds her son after reading that her husband is missing in battle overseas fighting in WWII. This powerful design emphasizes the importance for all citizens to purchase war bonds to help finance the war effort. It was created by Xavier Gonzalez (1898 - 1993). Gonzalez was born in Spain and emigrated to the United States in 1925. He studied at the Art Insitute of Chicago, and his works can be seen in prestigious museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Whitney Museum. His WPA-era murals are present throughout the American South.
