Bright and colorful, this vintage travel poster was created in the 1955 to encourage travel to Rio de Janiero, Brazil on Varig (acronym for Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense) Airlines using graphic symbols of tourist attractions. The highlight image in the center is the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer that towers over the city. Varig was the first airline founded in Brazil, going into business in 1927. Since the time this poster was created until 1990, the company was the leading airline and one of the only international airlines in the country. It was split into two companies in 2002 and was absorbed into other airlines.
