- The island of Jamaica had long been a part of the British Empire until its independence from Great Britain in 1962. Long known for its abundant sugar crops, Jamaica's economy thrived with the growth of the tourist industry in the post-World War II era. This poster was created by an anonymous artist in the mid 1950's to encourage tourist visits to Jamaica as The Land of Calypso. This was long before the trend of Reggae music was popular and synonymous with Jamaica. With its proximity to the United States and its many beaches and other attractions Jamaica has been a popular destination for vacation travel for many years. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
