- A well-dressed gentleman with white hair and mustache is lighting a cigar with matches, both of which are from the Opal Company. On the box, it states that Opal is a “manufacturer of fine cigarettes” and describes the cigars as the “finest Brazil-Havana mixture.” On the peripheral of the red oval label, the designer of the packaging put “light” and “aromatic” in French and German, indicating an international market of the Opal cigars. This poster was originally released in 1936 to promote the Swiss cigar brand, Opal, a company located in Beinwil am See, Switzerland. The unknown artist chose black for the background and this is a classic style for posters. The match lights up his face and makes him come out of the dark. While there is little known about the brand now, the poster has remained a symbol for the company. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
