This realistic image was created by the British artist Septimus E. Scott in 1924, who was a painter, illustrator and comic artist. It advertises Le Mandarin, a liqueur made from mandarin oranges. It was used as an aperitif in France, a beverage served before a meal. The figure in the poster is angled in such a way that he looks like he is standing over the viewer, leaning back. This projects the bottle forward and gives the viewer the impression he is about to pour you a glass. The artist includes details like wrinkles and flushed cheeks to convey a life-like image of the gentleman.
