This vintage poster expresses the drama of Ariane, a five-act opera inspired by Greek mythology. It was created by Jules Massenet with French libretto music by Catulle Mendès. The first performance was held at the Palais Garnier in Paris in 1906. Lucienne Bréval, a well-known soprano, starred in the titled role.
The artist of this poster, Albert Maignan, places the heroine's feet infront of the Art Nouveau border to create the illusion that she is coming out of the picture plane.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition.
