This original vintage poster was created in the 1990's by artist, Javier Mariscal. It is part of a campaign to promote the 200 year old Benedictine as a drink for the modern age.

Javier Mariscal (1950- Present) is a Spanish artist, illustrator, and furniture designer. He began his career in graphic design with his 1979 logo for Barcelona. In Furniture Design, he created the Duplex Stool, as well as the Alexandra armchair and the "Diary Chair" for the Big Brother TV series. In 1992 he developed the cartoon character "Cobi" for the Barcelona Olympics, as well as "Twipsy" for the 1995 Expo 2000 held in Hanover. In 2009, he was honored with a retrospective exhibition at the London Design Museum.

Bénédictine is a herbal liqueur that was developed by Alexandre Le Grand in 19th century France. The liqueur is flavored with over 27 flowers, roots, herbs and spices. According to various sources, the recipe of the liqueur was cultivated by a 16th century monk named Dom Bernardo Vincelli who was said to have dabbled in Alchemy. The recipe for Bénédictine was purportedly created to revive tired monks, and is for the most part a secret to the general public. In 1860, Le Grand found the manuscripts for the beverage and created Bénédictine. The liqueur began import to the United States in 1888 where it still remains a popular brand. In 1992, Benedictine was bought by Bacardi for 1.4 million.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.
