Marvel Comic Art Signed by Stan Lee
Over the course of my travels in the art community, I am constantly looking at art that extends beyond our immediate interest in Original Vintage Posters. Our clients have diversified interests in art, and I am excited to announce that we will be offering new concepts in art in the upcoming weeks and months. We are exploring original contemporary art, limited edition prints, great vintage photography, and sculpture.
Our first group of new offerings consists of six fine art prints of iconic comic book covers. The prints represent the most renowned characters developed by Marvel Comics in the past 50 years. These prints have each been hand-signed by the founder and chief artist of Marvel, Stan Lee.
Stan Lee is the creative genius behind the most famous comic book characters ever developed. In collaboration with several artists (most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko) he co-created Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men, and many other cultural icons. He is responsible for introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. Stan Lee led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house into a large multimedia corporation.
Comics historian Peter Sanderson wrote that:
"The Marvel of the 1960s was in its own way the counterpart of the French New Wave.... Marvel was pioneering new methods of comics storytelling and characterization, addressing more serious themes, and in the process keeping and attracting readers in their teens and beyond. Moreover, among this new generation of readers were people who wanted to write or draw comics themselves, within the new style that Marvel had pioneered, and push the creative envelope still further."
The prints measure 16.5" x 24" each. Each print is hand signed by Stan Lee, who is now 91 years old.
I hope that you enjoy these images as much as I do!
