This is the period of Arts Nouveau and very elegant styles in society. The company was founded in Spain in 1822 by Pedro Domecq Lembeye who had recently migrated to Spain from France. Upon the death of Mr. Lembeye, it was his cousin Pedro Domecq Loustau who took over the company and was credited with creating the first Spanish cognac or Brandy. The company continued to expand its product lines and developed sherries and brandies. In 1941 the company expanded into Latin America setting up brandy distilleries and soleras in Mexico and South America, and later launching Presidente in 1956 and Don Pedro in 1961. Today, Presidente brandy is the national drink of Mexico, enjoyed from beach bars to city hotels, often as a mixed drink with cola or soda. In the United States it is popular with the Mexican-American community, especially in states such as California, Texas, Florida, and Illinois.
Fernand Toussaint (1873–1956) was a Belgian painter. He began studying art with Jean-François Portaels and at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts at the age of 15. At the age of eighteen he left for Paris to continue his studies there. He made his study under the well-known Belgian portraitist Alfred Stevens. He specialized in painting portraits of women, still lifes and cityscapes, in the Impressionist, Art Nouveau, and Post-Impressionist styles. His works include paintings, watercolors and posters. He is also a famed artist to depict beautiful floral still lifes and interiors, coastal views and seascapes. Her flowing garment creates a sense of movement and sensuality, enveloping her form in a dramatic flourish that draws the viewer’s eye across the entire image. Cradling a bottle of Fonte Meo, she appears both intimate and symbolic—suggesting purity, vitality, and indulgence. Francesco Nonni (1885–1976) was an Italian painter, illustrator, and designer associated with the decorative arts movement of the early 20th century. Trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Nonni developed a distinctive style influenced by Art Nouveau and Symbolism, characterized by flowing lines, refined color palettes, and an emphasis on elegance and form. In addition to his work in commercial poster design, he was active in mural painting, ceramics, and illustration, contributing to Italy’s rich tradition of applied arts. Nonni also exhibited at major international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, and later became a respected educator, helping to shape the next generation of Italian artists. He is known for modernizing advertising design for the 20th Century. His compositions are uncomplicated and often feature a graceful figure with an oversized rendition of the product against a simple color background. The typography is often minimized to be as direct and short as possible. This innovation allowed for the advertising to be eye-catching and understood at a moments’ glance. It was ideal for the fast paced travel and attention of busy city life.

To learn more about the career of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappiello

This is an Original Vintage Poster.
