There is no other American President that is so well known as a symbol of vitality and youth than John F. Kennedy. With the slogan, “A Time For Greatness”, this image of JFK was used on a number of advertising materials for his Democratic primary campaign for the presidency in 1960. His fellow Democratic competitors were Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, Stuart Symington, and Adlai Stevenson.
Major questions by the Democratic Party surrounding JFK’s viability as a Catholic candidate were raised during the campaign, so an information brochure was created to promote Kennedy and his accomplishments. The brochure highlights his accomplishments as a World War II hero, his performance in national polls, his relationships with the agriculture industry, and his strong stance on defense. In general, the literature also highlights what would become the vision of the “Great Society” continued by LBJ during his presidency.
