  • This poster promoted the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. In the poster, we see an adorable dressed up gentleman carrying his luggage and sports equipment. He has brought golf sticks, skis, and tennis racquet in addition to tickets to the ballet, theatre and the Olympic Games. This design by Max Forbes not only emphasizes the variety of recreations one can find in the Olympic City, but also puts attending Olympic Games among other gentlemanly entertainment. The beach umbrella he holds also brings out the sunshine and great weather in Melbourne. This poster is considered by many as the unofficial poster representing the Olympics that year, as the official one is not as colorful and interesting. Unfortunately, little is known about the artist.
