This poster design was commissioned by Abbott Labs , a medical products company that supplied the United States military forces in World War I and II . The text on the bottom of the poster reads "Published by Abbott Laboratories as a Contribution to the Treasury's Schools-At-War Program". This particular design depicts a wounded soldier being attended to by a nurse in a battlefield. The message of Carry On is meant to spur on the soldiers as well as the domestic population whose role it is to Buy War Bonds in support of these injured military men.
The artist Joseph Raskin (1897 – 1982) was born in Russia and after coming to the United States, he studied at the National Academy of Design. He studied art in France and Germany as well.
