  • During WWII, posters have played an important role to stimulate patriotic fervor. Graphic artists use familiar images and expressions to sway public opinion and unite the people in support of the war effort. This poster is a great example. The large text “Rags” are decorated with patterns usually seen on household rags, while the armed soldiers and the tanks deliver the tension at the front line. This poster was issued by the Canadian National Salvage Office to encourage the public to save and donate their rags in order to produce supplies for the army. This poster is in the permanent collection of Canadian War Museum.
