The dancing couple of Rena May & Gerardy were popular in their native France in the 1930's. This was during the height of popularity of ballroom dancing as well as the many movies featuring couples dancing such as Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers. When the Nazi movement threatened liberties in Europe the couple emigrated to Australia where they lived the remainder of their lives.
This alluring image by the artist Harford uses the influence of the Art Deco style and combines it with the subtlety of color to show various shades of beige as well as a hint of burgundy highlighting Rena May's gown and the typography. It is a poster of grace and elegance and very delicately drawn.
