  • Venice Simplon Ė Venice is a 1986 French Travel poster by Fix Masseau for the re-launch of the Venice Simplon Orient Express rail line. It features the San Marco Campanile and Saint Markís Basilica in Venice, which was the destination of the trainís maiden journey as well as its regular services. There is also a contour of the Lion of Venice, a bronze sculpture that sits in the Piazza San Marco in the city. The artist, Pierre Fix-Masseau uses his signature art deco style which he developed throughout his long career beginning in the early 1930ís.

Fix-Masseau (1905-1994) worked closely with famous art deco posterist, A.M. Cassandre from 1926 to 1928. Cassandreís influence is clearly seen in many of his earlier works. During Fix-Masseauís lengthy career he maintained his distinctive art deco crisp style and he continued to create new posters well into the 1980ís. He is especially well known for these images of the Venice Simplon Orient Express.

Please note that this is the larger version of the design with a dimension of 24.5 inches by 39.5 inches.
