La Pocharde is a 1905 poster illustrated by Ernest Clair-Guyot. The poster advertises the first novel from the French author, Jules Mary. Mary specialized in writing melodramas often based on miscarriages of justice. Clair-Guyot presents a haunting image as La Pocharde (The Drunk) recalls the suffering of the heroine, Charlotte LeMarche. In the novel, LeMarche is an alcoholic who has her children taken from her after she is falsely accused of her husband's murder.
