  • This stylish French poster was designed by Aslan (1930—2014) to promote the French women’s fashion magazine “Joyce.” The poster advertises the Winter 1990-91 issue, which features the season’s hottest ready to wear fashion. The text on the cover notes that colored paillettes (or spangles), metals, and leathers are the current major trends in the fashion world. Also featured in this issue is Sabine Azéma, a César Award winning French actress and director.

French artist Aslan, born Alain Gourdon, had a varied and unusual career. He illustrated children’s books, sculpted busts of Presidents Eisenhower, de Gaulle and Pompidou, and created wax figures for Madame Tussaud’s in London. However, he is most well-known for his sultry pin-up illustrations and prints, such as his iconic posters advertising shows at the Folies Bergère, and his contributions to Lui, a French adult entertainment magazine.
