This Original Vintage Poster was created in 1938 by twin brothers Jacques and Pierre Bellenger. The poster is an advertisement for Bally, a luxury Swiss leather company founded in 1851 and still in existence today. The text at the bottom of the poster reads ‘Le meilleur marche par la qualite' meaning ‘The best step in quality.' This large scale advertisement is striking and effective. The image depicts that the company sells stylish and top quality shoes for men and women.Tthe combination of the primary colors and perspective of the stairs keep the viewer's eye focused and interested on the information presented.
Pierre and Jacques Bellenger were born in 1909 in France. The brothers worked together and have a similar style. Both men were trained at the Julian Academy where they won the Colonial Exposition contest in 1928. This began their notable career as poster artists and continued through the 1960s. During their active years, they produced advertisements for many products ranging from food and beverage to gasoline, and even motorcycles.
