This Alitalia poster was created in 1948, just two years after the airline was founded. The poster’s dynamic composition is a nod to the important art movement of Futurism, a point of pride for Italians as they rebuilt in the post-war era. A sleek propeller plane is superimposed atop a compass rose. Layered right on top of the plane is the Freccia Alata, Alitalia’s first logo of a winged arrow, which was used by the company until 1969.

Alitalia is the national airline of Italy as was formed following the end of WWII. In its early days, Alitalia flew primarily to South America and only in the 1960s did it expand to service to the rest of Europe. The Pope exclusively flies on Alitalia planes.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
