Other posters for the fashionable Parisian "North Pole" ice skating rink mention that the establishment offers "Perpetual Skating on Real Ice" to the accompaniment of a forty-piece orchestra. But honestly, who cares about that. If Japhet's poster is to believed, heading to the North Pole was about seeing and being seen with a bit of skating thrown in for good measure. And these impeccable Art Nouveau couture mavens-whose icy smiles lead one to believe that they'd just as soon claw each other's eyes out as hit the rink-set against a subtly radiating aurora borealis serve as an engaging calling card to the city's gliding-minded citizenry. Several 19th century designers used the pseudonym "Japhet" but it seems most likely that the artist of this poster may well have been Alexandre J. L. Jazet who, although born in 1814, was still producing illustration in the 1890s.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.

  • If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
