Cognac Albert Robin

The Cognac Albert Robin firm was established in 1860 and specialized in international sales of Cognac. The company is still in business and also deals with Pineau and Brandy. This poster designed by Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) became the logo of the company.

Cappiello is one of the most widely recognized poster designers of the early-twentieth century, and is considered by many to be the father of modern posters. He began working as a caricaturist and soon he signed a contract with the printer and publisher Pierre Vercasson, where his career truly began. His use of bold colors and oversized figures against dark backgrounds and integration of the arabesque form were designed to attract the attention of clients and viewers.

This poster exemplifies perfectly Cappiello's style. A barrel with an oversized bird on top with very vibrant yellows and reds, against a black background. The name of the product appears in big letters and written with a simple typography, easy to read.
