This is a stone lithograph proof print for La Belle Jardiniere Magazine. The blank spaces were later printed with a calendar. It is rare and also hand signed in pencil by the artist Eugene Grasset. Printed ca. 1897, it features a beautiful red-headed woman picking fruit from her garden's tree. It is a wonderful example of Art Nouveau style advertising.

Eugene Grasset (1845 – 1917) was Swiss decorative artist during the Belle Epoque. Considered a pioneer in Art Nouveau design, Grasset was featured in many publications of Maîtres de l'Affiche, a french quarterly publication put together by the renowned Jules Cheret. In the 1880’s Grasset created the 1892 Christmas Issue of Harper’s Magazine which granted him more success as a graphic artist. In 1894, Grasset completed the illustrations, The Wooly Horse and the Sun of Austerlitz for The Century Magazine. Grasset’s work can be recognized through his intricate pattern work, inclusion of precious material in unique combinations and above all, his romantic art nouveau style.
