Kodak - Pour la Photo en Couleurs

Kodak is a film and camera company that was started by George Eastman in 1888. Kodak is famous for being the first to sell cameras to the general public, creating a massive shift in global culture. Before 1888, taking and developing photographs was cumbersome and expensive - Kodak created a product that was both accessible and affordable. George Eastman made it his life’s goal to make photography "as convenient as the pencil".

Andre Francois (1915-2005) was known for his cheeky artistic style. Born Andre Farkas in Romania, Francois began his career as a children’s book illustrator. He went on to create many illustrations for magazines like The New Yorker and is most well known for his posters for Kodak, Gilette, and Citroen.

This poster honors the heritage of Kodak in its depiction of a 1920s outfitted photographer with his bowler hat. He removes his hat to reveal the fantastical colors of an exotic bird - driving home that Kodak is the best choice for "photos in color". The message here is two-fold; Kodak is a company with deep roots that also sells cutting edge film.
