"The Cradle of Skiing" is a designation often used about Norway, where skiing has been a way of transportation and a recreational sports for centuries. In this travel poster, Norwegian America Line invites tourists to Norway where mountains are covered by snow and babies are born ready to ski.

"Ski" is one of the words Norway has exported to the international community. Originated from Scandinavian, this winter sport has always been associated with Norway, and ski enthusiasts often take Norway as the dream vacation destination.

Norwegian America Line was founded in 1910 as an operator of passenger and cargo ships. The company ran a regular route between United States and Norway, and later added a route to East Africa. Due to rising popularity in air travel, transatlantic voyage services gradually discontinued over the years.

Knut Yran (1920 - 1998) was a Norwegian illustrator, designer and author. He was a leading character in advertising and book art in 1950s and work 15 years as chief designer for the electronic manufacturer Philips.
