Vermouth - Martini

In this poster promoting Martini Vermouth, the artist San Marco depicts a character with grapes on his face and vines as his hair. This reminds us of the Greek god of the grape harvest and winemaking, Dionysus.

This poster was designed for the Turin-based wine company, Martini & Rossi. The company was founded by businessman Alessandro Martini, winemaker Lugio Rossi and accountant Teofilo Sola in mid-19th century in Turin, Italy. The company is one of the first brands to produce Vermouth and later became famous for the cocktail named Martini, a mixed alcoholic drink its founder invented. A Martini is prepared by mixing gin or vodka and vermouth together and garnished by an olive or a lemon twist. Over the years, Martini has become one of the best-known cocktails.
