The Vins De France poster, created to promote French wine, features a young, smiling woman proudly holding both a basket filled with grapes and a jug of French wine. On her either side, the woman is additionally surrounded by a bountiful variety of grapes. The bottom text under Vins De France, or French wine which reads "Sante, Gaiete and Esperance" translates to English as "Health, Gaiety, and Hope."
Artist André Galland (1886-1965) was a French Illustrator who also created earthenware, posters and lithographs which are now sought after by many collectors. Galland studied at the Rollin College of the Decorative Arts and Fine Arts in Paris and throughout his career, illustrated books for the youth in publications such as Offenstadt, Fillette, L’Epatant and L’intrepide.
He also worked for other newspapers such as Le Dimanche Illustré, The Beautiful Pictures, Le Petit Journal, Le Journal, Le Matin or Le Charivari (Wikipedia).
