This poster was created by the American watercolor artist, John Gallucci (1918 - 2009) in 1979 and was commissioned by the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee. It promoted and commemorated the ski events held in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. These were the Olympics when the underdog American Hockey Team won the Olympic Gold Medal in the famed "Miracle on Ice" game. This poster is hand-signed by the artist, as well as five members of the US Hockey Team. It was a gift from the artist to Gallery owner, Mickey Ross.

As the standout goal tender for Team USA in the 1980 Olympics, Jim Craig was instrumental in the "Miracle on Ice," notably saving 36 of 36 shots in the gold medal game against the Soviet Union. Playing as a forward in the 1980 Olympics, Dave Christian scored a key goal in the semifinal match. As the captain and a forward for Team USA, Mike Eruzione scored the decisive goal against the Soviet Union, securing his place as a hero in the "Miracle on Ice." A defenseman for Team USA, Ken Morrow scored the clinching goal in the gold medal game against Finland, ensuring the team’s triumph and his own lasting legacy. Playing as a forward in the 1980 Olympics, Mark Johnson scored twice in the game against the Soviet Union, including a pivotal goal that helped lead Team USA to a dramatic victory.

John Gallucci attended Syracuse University and later New York University with studies in Fine Art. He was a recognized watercolorist and a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society 1953. He was an educator in the Lake Placid area for most of his career and was chosen to represent his home with a group of 1980 Winter Olympic Posters.
