American Airlines - New England
American Airlines - New England
(72cm x 100cm)
American Airlines is a major airline based in Fort Worth, Texas. The company was founded in 1926 as a union of more than eighty small airlines and is the world's largest airline. American Airlines is a founding member of OneWorld Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world. Through this partnership they are able to coordinate fares and services with Airlines around the world. In 2001, they acquired the well-known Trans World Airlines (TWA). They still operate today out of ten major hubs in the United States.
This poster was created in the 1950's as part of a campaign for travel via American Airlines to various United States destinations. The entire group was designed by Bern Hill (1911-1977) a Canadian born artist. In this poster we see a classical bell tower and a wood ship that remind us of New England.
Bern Hill was a free-lance graphic designer and painter from Toronto who spent most of his career and life in Connecticut. His artwork is characterized by clean, defined designs and boldly colored landscape settings that are often portrayed through unusual and innovative perspectives - a perfect combination for poster designs. While some of Hill's biggest clients included General Motors, American Airlines, Reader's Digest and Saturday Evening Post, the artist was perhaps best known for his modernist train illustrations that appeared on the covers of railroad magazines.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
