Similar to the famous orange peel poster designed by Cappiello, this work features a bottle floating on a black background, and the pink paper wrap is cleverly peeled to reveal the label of a Bitter Campari.

Carlo Fisanotti (1912-?) was an Italian poster artist. He started creating posters when working in the field of film advertising in 1929. Fisanotti returned to Italy in 1934 and after two years working in a major printing press in Turin, he opened his own studio in 1936. After the war, he specialized in poster designing for confectionery and liquor.
Gaspar Campari first produced Bitter Campari in 1860 in Novara, Italy. The liquor falls under the category of "Bitters," which is traditionally prepared as a mixture of water, alcohol, and botanical extracts, in this case, an orange peel. Bitters were originally developed as patent medicines, but are now used as digestifs. The drink is colored with carmine dye that gives the drink its unique red coloring. In 1904, Campari began to produce its liquor for overseas export. Advertising campaigns were developed to promote the brand. Compared to its previous campaign, this poster has a modern and graphic design that was popular post World War II.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.
