The iconic Bonbel Cheese "Laughing Cow" mascot strikes again in this vibrant and whimsical poster from 1950. Perfect for the eating areas of the home, this poster has classic Swiss influence in its simplistic composition. A classic French meal of cheese, wine, and baguette demonstrate that Bonbel cheese is a delicious choice.
Bonbel Cheese has its roots in 1865, when Jules Bel founded the company "Etablissements Jules Bel" in France. His son, Leon Bel registered the Laughing Cow brand in 1921 and the company grew to international markets. In 1947, the company changed its name to "Bonbel". It is most known today in the USA for its miniature "babybel" cheeses, a staple of many school lunches.
Benjamin Rabier (1864-1939) was a French illustrator most known for his "Laughing Cow" image seen here ('La Vache Qui Rit" in French). He worked for various newspapers in France, and specialized in depicting animals with humanistic features and his style is considered a precursor to the cartoon.
