Chicago World's Fair 1933 Map
Chicago World's Fair 1933 Map
(95cm x 58cm)
We see all the splendor of the 1933 Chicago World's Fair in this poster by Charles Turzak & Henry Chapman. An elaborate air show is happening in the sky above, with biplanes weaving across the cityscape. Further down, the city of Chicago is illustrated in charming detail. Funny anecdotes point out the various exciting sites, and the harbor of Lake Michigan is filled with boats criss-crossing their routes. A detailed guide is posted below, and the border is framed with, "An Illustrated Map of Chicago: Youthful City of the Big Shoulders - Restless - Ingenious - Willful - Violent - Proud to be Alive!". Can you spot the whale?
The 1933 Chicago World's Fair is also known as A Century of Progress International Exposition, and was held to celebrate the centennial of the settling of Chicago. Easing out of the Great Depression, the Fair highlighted the role technology would play in the coming decades. Many exciting things happened at the Chicago World's Fair, but a favorite is the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
