In America during WWII, every resource was poured into the war effort. With over 12 million Americans - 11% of the total population - serving in the armed forces, everything from food to labor was tight on the Home Front.
This poster shows a dirty and cold looking child superimposed over a swastika with a brooding sky behind. The photograph was taken from amateur photographer Harriet Nadeau (1908 - 2002), who entered it into a competition in New York. The phrase "deliver us from evil" comes from Christianity's Lord's Prayer.
