Maîtres de l'Affiche (Masters of the Poster) refers to 256 color lithographic plates used to create an art publication during the Belle Époque in Paris, France. The collection, reproduced from the original works of ninety-seven artists in a smaller 11 x 15-inch format, was put together by Jules Chéret, the father of poster art and distributed between 1895 – 1900. The varied selection of prints was sold in packages of four and delivered monthly to subscribers. Designed for a subscription audience, the publication showcased the most influential posters of the era in a collectible small format.

This poster advertises the Café Riche centered in Paris, France. The text on the upper portion of the poster reads "Where do they go?" The image features a stark black background and two guards escorting a woman in a vibrant red dress. The bottom text of the poster reads "Au Violin", revealing the show in which they are all going to at the Café Riche.

Jules-Alexandre Grun (1868 – 1934) was a French post-impressionist painter, poster artist, and illustrator. Grun's best known painting is called The Dinner Party, produced in 1911. It was, however, in the field of poster art and illustration, for which he was famous. He was employed at a large printing company in Paris and his artistic director was Jules Cheret. Cheret was also his main competitor in poster art.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
