An airfight breaks out in the skies above Bougainville, Papua New Guinea as Marines battle in the jungle below in this American WWII poster by Major G. Harding. It is part of a 1945 enlistment campaign by the U.S. Marine Corps, which depicted different scenes of battle. Each poster in the series features art by an active servicemember.
The text of this poster reads: "Bougainville - The Third Marine Division, Reenforced, riding amtracs in to spearhead the landings in Bougainville Island, fought torrential rains, mud and jungle as well as enemy land and air forces - - and overcame all to lead the way to an important World War II victory".
