Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954) is one of the most important artists of the Modern Art movement of the 20th Century. Known for his use of bright colors, lively subject matter, and playful abstractions he was also something of a Man-About-Town in the South of France. He lived in Nice from 1917 until his death, and loved the lifestyle of the Riviera. It makes sense, then, that there was a retrospective of his works held in the Cote d'Azur town of Aix-en-Provence in 1960.

Matisse's important work "The Dream" is highlighted in this exhibition poster; it was clearly the main draw of the exhibition. Created in 1940, "The Dream" is expressionist and uniquely Matisse. He created over 13 draft sketches before settling on this final composition.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
