Rayon des Soieries
Rayon des Soieries
(79cm x 119cm)
Nothing exudes Art Deco quite like this poster. Created in 1930, Rayon des Soieries features the clean lines, simplified forms, and overall 'coolness' of this famed artistic movement. Rayon des Soieries was a one-act opera set in the silk section of a department store, which helps to explain the elegant figure in this design showing off the elegant wares.
Maurice Dufrene (1876 - 1955) was a French artist who worked in a wide variety of fields. Dufrene originally was an Art Nouveau artist who subsequently transitioned into the Art Deco movement. He was the head of design for the famous department store, Galeries Lafayette, is well regarded for his furniture design, and also worked in interior design. It is interesting to note that Dufrene not only created the poster for this opera, but also its set design and costumes.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
