Bold graphic design is on display in this 1977 Soviet -era tennis poster. The utilitarian image of a person- usually used on public signs - springs to life as it reaches its racquet out to return the ball to the other side of the net.

This poster was created for the 1977 USSR International Tennis Tournament, held in present-day Latvia. The texts tell us in Russian that "the strongest Soviet and foreign" tennis players will be competing, although it is a mystery what other countries' players participated. During the Cold War, the USSR had very few diplomatic friends in the West. This tournament was held in August, 1977, just months after the lead Soviet tennis players all decided to boycott playing at Wimbledon.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
