This is a complete set of twelve commemorative posters created by Pierre Fix Masseau (1905-1994) for the re-launch of the Venice Simplon Orient Express rail line. This series was done in an edition of 300, and this set is numbered 62/300. The 'Venice' print with the lion silhouette is hand signed by the artist. Each poster proudly displays the elegance of a sleeping compartment on the train favored by the stylish passenger. The artist, Pierre Fix-Masseau uses his signature Art Deco style, which he perfected throughout his long career. Please note that each poster measures 12.5" x 19.5" individually.

Pierre Fix-Masseau was the son of accomplished French sculptor, Pierre Felix-Masseau. Fix-Masseau began his career as an apprentice to master Art Deco designer A.M. Cassandre, for whom he worked for from 1926 to 1928. This experience greatly impacted Fix-Masseau, who continued to work within the Art Deco style for the remainder of his long career. Cassandre's interest in foreshortening, heightened focal points, and flattened planes can be seen in Fix-Masseau's works. Fix-Masseau combined Cassandre's influence with his own mastery of perspective and intricate detail to create his own, distinctive style. Fix-Masseau is best remembered for his posters featuring railway and automotive themes.

This is a set of twelve Original Vintage Posters; none are a reproduction. Each poster was printed on heavyweight paper and is in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

  • If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
