This Belle Epoque print was created by the artist Manuel Robbe (1872 - 1936). He was a painter and printmaker in turn of the century Paris. He had an experimental approach to printmaking and created over 200 aquatints and drypoints in his career. Robbe's technique was developed over several phases, which included printing with a mixture of sugar, India ink and gum Arabic on his zinc plate. This print is a study in the female figure as well as Robbe's elegant use of subtly changing light and dark shadows which give his work visual depth.
