A toucan patiently waits for his return flight to South America in this charming 1956 poster design created for Air France. After the end of WWII, there was a huge expansion in travel destinations for the airline and many posters, like this one, featured the farther reaches of these new routes. It is a classic midcentury design in a wonderfully unique color palette. Air France was formed in 1933 through a merger of several smaller international companies. These smaller airlines had already built extensive networks across the world, and when combined under the Air France umbrella they created an exciting accessibility to fliers. Air France remains one of the most highly regarded international airlines, servicing 78 countries around the world. It served as France's primary national flag carrier for seven decades prior to its 2003 merger with KLM. Posters have always been essential to Air France’s communications. It has one of the greatest collections in the world with over 1500 posters created by the most famous illustrators. Air France posters are usually striking, with few words, and depict destinations as dream-like and air travel as making dreams come true. Jacques Dubois (1912 - 1994) was an artist that created many posters for SNCF during the late 1940’s through the 1950’s. Unfortunately, there is little background information about the artist. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in very good condition with professional restoration at the corners. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

  • If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
