Aperitivo Rossi

This original vintage advertising poster for Aperitivo Rossi was created by French artist Jean Droit circa 1930 for Martini & Rossi of Turin, Italy. The poster promotes the company's Rossi aperitif, one of the products produced by the firm that became internationally known for its vermouths and aperitifs.Droit uses a humorous and memorable image of an oversized orange balancing a bottle of Rossi on its head. The same orange character appears on the bottle's label, directly connecting the central image with the advertised product. Against the dark blue background, the orange and bottle stand out dramatically, while the simple “Aperitivo Rossi” lettering makes the advertising message immediately recognizable.Martini & Rossi traces its history to 1863 in Turin, when Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi and Teofilo Sola became associated with the company that would develop into one of Italy's best-known producers of vermouth and aperitifs. Rossi, an herbalist and liqueur expert, was responsible for developing many of the company's early formulas. Advertising posters played an important role in establishing the Martini & Rossi name internationally during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.Jean Droit (1884–1961) was a French painter, illustrator and poster artist. He produced advertising and travel posters as well as illustrations and became particularly known for his strong graphic compositions and distinctive characters.
