This dramatic image was created by the noted artist Bernard Perlin in 1942 to promote patriotism on the American home front after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. That event brought Japan into the War and compelled the United States to focus on fighting the attack from Japan at the same time as combatting Germany and Italy. The American people were reminded of the loss of lives in Pearl Harbor as the image shows the destruction of the naval vessel.

Bernard Perlin (1918-2014) was an American painter primarily known for creating many American posters during WWII and for magic realism paintings of American life. Educated at the New York School of Design, National Academy of Design, and the New York Arts Student League. He entered the Office of War Information in 1942. His post war career focused on original painting both for private companies as well as for the Government. This is the larger of two sizes distributed by the U.S. Government.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is not mounted with subtle folds as issued by the U.S. Government and in excellent condition.

We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

  • If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
