An elegant woman arrives with her date at the Casino de Li Las for a night of dancing in this c1905 poster by Guillaume. The outdoor, Bordeaux -based Casino boasts of having music every evening, and the cameo in the bottom left shows us the expansive grounds by daylight. We are also told that visitors can easily arrive to the Casino by tram. The Casino de Li Las (a play on the French word for 'lilacs') was notorious at the time for its rigged games and debaucherous police raids - it's no wonder they hired Guillaume to try to give it a fresh face in this elegant poster.
Albert Guillaume (1873 – 1942) was one of the most prolific illustrators of his day, displaying thirty-two of his posters in the landmark Reims exhibition in 1896 and acting as a regular contributor of numerous illustrations to such journals as "Gil Blas" and "Figaro Illustre". Guillaume for many exemplifies Belle Époque poster art. His styling and choice of color helped define the movement, along with his more well-known counterparts such as Jules Cheret.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

What Does 'Original' Mean?
We only deal in original vintage posters, never reproductions. This means that every poster is from the original print run, in the year listed in the description. Everything we sell comes with an individually signed certificate of authenticity, which we fully guarantee.
